Hi Michael Z. I was thinking about printmaking cults when this work was shot. Basically the Vamp was about biting other artists to give them the printmedia bugg. Thus the title of my 1998 show at the FPS was called the New Breed Printmaking was about breeding future printmedia artists who would challenge the systems of commercial media maggots. We may be small but watch out, artists are on the move and the more people we bite the more the times will change, hahahaha and we really need change in Australia for our futures. PS all you people talking about climate change stop blaming the goverment and get out of your cars. It takes the people to change the future not the goverment.

Hi Marie yes funny you should ask im arranging a fight club photo shoot, between me and my friend who's a perforance artists - printmaker. Basically its us with boxing gear on but on the shirts, my shirt say's Printmaker and Gerards say's Media Star. It's idea revolves around the push and pull of the art printmaking world and the commercial world of media. The fights going to be huge but the photo shows us at the end of the fight with our arms around each others neck like we are the best of freinds. Yes thats right printmaking and media at the end of the day just best friends hahahaha.

The shirt says "Print Maker" in beautiful white "silk" embroidery.

Yes, the tee shirt say's Printmaker, but its not so much a challege rather a identity of who I am as an artist. I think the position of artist as printmedia maker is a personal one. The challege is to compare what artists do against what the media in general do. By no means am I saying the media do not create personal and interesting work, and im not saying artists create interesting work or better work than the media. The problem is where do the two fields meet. In fact where do all the split identity's of media both artistic and commercial meet. Michael P and myself will be doing a performance piece called Summer Sounds of Reggae at the Firestation Print Studio's on Thursday Dec 14th ill wear the tee shirt for you all then 6pm - 8 pm. Come have a party everyone, videoing live event.

Michael F, I think this is one of the best prints you have done (not that my opinion really counts for much). I value the stripping off of excess details, the use of complementary colours red/green and the direction and angle of the subject's knees (bent to win). Jamie Packer may be able to afford to buy this work @ $1.00 seeing that he just sold a communications network to an Asian syndicate for a profit of $4.2 billion with the assistance of Johnny H and Helen C whom changed the OZ communications purchase laws to accommodate Jamie P. Not surprisingly poor Jamie has announced that he is putting all of the profit into an international gambling setup. Maybe you could send this 'Gaming' image for his 2007 advertising for his new adventure but make sure all of the poverty stricken get to know, so they can gamble they way out of their poverty.

This work was an extention to a show I had at Linden gallery. The show was called around the block and inside out, it was about a group of buildings in Fitzroy st St Kilda. The photo copies on the back gates of the Majestic hotel show the inside of the building which was left to rot before the developers took over in the early 90s. Like the buildings the photocopys did not take long to disintergrate. Thus we have St Kilda land of the coorporates.

Printmaking work in Public. The idea of leaving a peice of printmaking on a pole in Glebe was to see the reaction to the work from the public . I left several peices of work around the area. Some where taken by people some were distroyed some stayed until weathered away. Documenting the works was the main aim of the project. The documentation became the work.

Dont know how much of it is advertising for clubs though. Theres a great piece just of Crown st in Sydney on the side of a clothes shop. Its about 10ft by 10ft, the artists has stencil sprayed black spidders on a white wall and them sprayed red on top of them like a splatter, black death is spray stenciled underneath in gothic type. Advertising Printmaking as something more than a small art culture. This image plays with the idea of the word printmaking in general public veiw. I would like to see and hear the public on the word printmaking. I would like to hear the public on their understanding of the word printmaking. Ironically mic. printmaking is probably the most influential modern "art" form today-not necisarily in a fine art or artistically read form but as somthing that impermiates our modern culture, what we wear, watch and in some ways eat-(printed packaging, mass produced foods) has probably had the process of printing involved in its manufacture-and this is what i see our mic is in part conveying with his works on printmaking,it tends to be less important in the fine art world as it's a pretty contained, prescribed diatribe that from my personal point of view is pretty self serving, micheal poses the question to me again and again-"what is our modern culture and where is art today in such a pluralistic materialistic culture"-AND as someone who has gone through the art school system and out the other side, and seen the snobbery of the art elite,am ALWAYS refreshed to see some work that does'nt nesicarilly rely on type or style to exist more power to his or her elbow!

Cheers Uncle Gerard, I wonder about the art system in kind of the same way. I mean most of us are pushed through art school. But what happens to most of the art students 100s of them from each college per year. Where do they go. Arts admin, gallery attendants, graphic designers, etc. Some end up like most people who are poor waiting tables in cafes. I guess the system can't support us all. After many years of making work you get to know who else is making work and I pleased to say a lot of the original students from Vic college including GM are still doing it for themselves. What is it we perceive the gallery space should or would contain as far as printmaking is concerned. This work is a deception with its banners flying high with the words printmaking on them. There was no such exhibition. But the image throws the question into public area number one what if.

Well by golly it is too. Have no doubt that in 500 years time when art historians are dealing with this period its going to be the billboards, television and magazines that will be discussed. . -Rob Reply
I don't know if Historians will be dealing with billboards as art becouse they are normally associated with advertising, same with TV, Intenet etc. Sure there has been a little activity in the arts in these areas but it's been very minimal. The public works such as Public Printmaking I have been doing over the years are concerned more with the idea of ownership and rights. If artists have public space available to them then where is all there work. Public space is expensive 99% of artists don't have the money to participate in public space, not like big corparte advertising companys. . -Michael Florrimell Reply
I like this one M/F.I find it quite annoying/make that----- very annoying that Art in public spaces gets "cleaned"----- off and I'm shocked to realize (as you say)that artists----are expected to pay for public space...why can't some of---the corporate owners offer it to artists like as per ------their so called "Doing Community Good Deeds"campaigns.-----I like the way you've used the digital medium to-----------subvert the public spaces. In Montreal you should see -----the public art...it's prevalent especially on the side-----walls of buildings that are at the end of the row.------- (However that doesn't balance out the shocking ------------poverty of the street people there all sitting -----------on wet hot-air grates melting the waist high snow).--------Who did you do your public printmaking with/in some--------of your other projects/and had you always known them ------before or did the art bring you together? . -Teece Reply

Thanks Michael, yes just read, bikes out sold cars in Melbourne by 500,000 last year. So I am wondering why the Vic Government are not creating a city centre for bikes. Simple things like coloured painted lines on the road to show drivers not to cross and beware of bikes, stopping traffic flow around the city areas etc. Really the amount of money poured into roads and free ways is just crazy when anyone of good health could ride a bike at least 20 kms a day . Keeps you fit and no fumes, no need for a $50 parking spot and you meet people of similar mind.

Hi Mike thanks for the comment the works are 8 tee shirts with the media names embroidered on to each one with a digital stitching machine. The words are supposed to represent the different methods of media and ask the question are they not al the same. I think through history these methods of production have blended and transformed into each other. Esp with the new digital age. However each still has its own cult which grades the secrets and hides in departments storing away the produce of its labours. See collections ad archives esp on this comment. I like the idea of poly technical. And see it as time in our history to start joining the dots and tees of all methods and media. The only thing to gain is a greater understanding of media as a whole.
