Jodi's print is as fluffy as you can get when it comes to politics. There is a kindness and concern for the animal in us all. Perhaps we should all be thinking about the casualty rate with John Howards War coming at the end of Feb. He has made us all bunny's for war not peace but war and thats a crime as far as im concerned.

Hey Jodie, very technically subtle print. Looking at it's texture, my guess is that it is a collage plus lino-block. Is this right? Top political title "FRIEND OR FOE?". My past experiences with rabbits have been both friend and foe. When living/functioning/teaching at Cunnamulla QLD, I often went rabbit shooting on local farms. On some farms I couldn't believe how many rabbits there were. You would know if you had shot/killed it by the sound the bullet made when entering and exiting it's body. It was a "ta-ouck" sound. The rabbits totally killed the local vegetation and turned it into a desert area. Years later I bought 2 pet rabbits (FRIENDS), I gave them away after they would chew through my PC cables and phone lines, as they wanted all my attention and they achieved their goals! Recently at Gormanstone, Tasmania, I saw the largest uncontrolled plague of black rabbits (FOE). Shocked, as is so close to brilliant wilderness areas. I took lots of photos. Yes-Michael, Australia by taking military action against Iraq without UN-backing makes us more likely to be a terrorist target. Johnny-Dog must be tried in an internation court for war crimes, Johnny-Dog has got all Australians involved in an illegal war. Johnny-Dog, you and your family should now prepare for "a very personal" terrorist backlash. Does Johnny-Dog understand the concept of "BACKLASH and PAYBACK"? Snuggling up close to Janette at night will not save you. If Janette had any moral fiber she could withhold sex for Johnny-Dog, until he cuts all ties with the Yankee-Wank-Me-Spank-Mees. She's in this equally with J.D.

Micky the world is a fragile place at the moment. People are being treated like vermon. Maybe johnny should be having sex like rabbits rather than killing innocents. Jodi

Hi Bridget, My guess is that this print is about ring-barking trees for the introduced hooved-footed animals (not the soft/padded footed native animals), just a crime as clearfelling is. Am I right or wrong? It is a technically excellent print to look at and to hold. What sort of paper did you print on - it has wonderful texture? The 4 lino plates you have used, each have a different tone and texture of black/grey and work well together. The tree/trees reminds me of a series of trees I have just photographed in Tasmania which I will soon download into the gallery section of this website. Have you done any hand colouring of any of your lino blocks. It reminds me of a couple of Margaret Preston's works (of which I cannot afford to own but I would love to have. I took your print outside, held it up to the sun and viewed the image with the sun light shinning through it, very interesting as negetive becomes positive. Can't wait to hang it with the rest of the portfolio. Thanks.

This work is printed on very fine paper, it reminds one of the fragile coarse of nature. Plitics is the same but someone should point this out to Australian politicians. Very interesting work.

Artists Statement:
Thinking about politics brought me to thoughts about Left and Right wing political parties. Knowing I wanted to create a "pop-up" style print, I thought about using and image of creatures with wings such as a bird.
When I remembered the famous quote by Edward N. Lorenz "Does the flap of a butterfly's wings in Brazil set off a Tornado in Texas?" (and now simply referred to as "The Butterfly Effect"), I decided therefore to depict a butterfly. The Butterfly Effect describes part of the scientific principles behind The Chaos Theory. I could not think of a better theory to apply to politics! We've all experinced the Butterfly Effect at all levels of politics from the personal, to state, country and world politics where a minor decision here and there have meant major changes further down the track.
My work asks a number of metaphorical questions of our Politicians and therefore of ourselves, for we have voted for them, such as:-
"Is Left Wing Politics going up in smoke?"
"Is Right Wing Politics going down the drain?"
"What time is it now?"
"How does water flow?" and just
"Which way does the wind blow?"
I hope you enjoy this piece

Oih! Anne-Maree, Yes I do enjoy your print. Can art be fun? Oh yes! Deep and meaningful can be too exhausting all the time! Thanks for making the effort to write a well-worded artist's statement. Artist's of 2003 "HAVE" to be able to justify their existence by written, verbal and body-language communication as well as through their art images. The image is not simply enough to create and then throw out there for "people" to sawallo/read/accept as is. You could get away with it in the 1900's but not in the 2000's. You have put a lot of effort/work into this "pop-up" style litho/print. The left-wing is probably "smoking" more as it watches the right-wing go down and "DOWNER" the tube/drain. I will turn the clock on your print and let it randomly (chaos!) stop as it wants (LOTTO!) before framing it. I have turned the environmental clock so that the water will flow "S" (south to Tasmania) and the wind can can then blow "N" (north) carrying all it's pollution (green-house-gasses) far away from me and back to it's source. Trouble is we're all only on one and the same planet and what comes around goes around. Consider doing this and similar prints on metal/tin/tough-cardboard and market them to educational development people to mass produce for primary schools and toy/game shops. Thanks for this print, great attention to detail.

Hi Julie, This is a "TOP" print and so is your personal website. You have truely captured the essence/nature/character of what it must be like during the action of front-line warfare and the dogs minds behind the sceen who create it. Horrible and hideous for those sent simply because it's their choosen job. But dogs will follow any direction if there is a reward at the end - food/money/praise, etc.... As you would be aware the Oz battleship "Kanimbla" left Woollamooloo, Sydney today. Did you see the water in the eyes of the men, women and children prior to it's departure whom are being used for political cannon fodder. Did you "PM JOHNNY" eyes - they were beaming with a lust for power and world attention. Johnny's conscious must be seared with a hot iron as he smileingly and proudly sent these men and women into a battle that has nothing to do with OZ. There is nothing for Australia to benefit for joining into this battle only future sadness and defecit. America "PISS OFF" away from Australia you have nothing we want from your cultural thinking types. England "FUCK OFF" away from Australia you have nothing we want from your culture thinking types. France and Germany have the wisdom not get involved, has Johnny lost the plot. What are his personal problems? Thanks Julie for your print I feel proud to be able to promote your work and eventually hang it on my home's wall.

Artists Statement:
At the time of joining the exchange I was living on Woodhill Mountian outside Kangeroo Valley. My studion was 'Flying Cow Studio'. For some time I had been reading many articles and debates on the 'Mad Cow' disease - and the politics behind - and the many coverups of when and why this disease had started and spread. During my time at Woodhill I saw first hand the feeding of dead animals to cows - and an application to overfarm in Kangeroo Valley was rejected by locals living in the area.In many ways this disease has been spread by man to man through ulterior motives and greed. Even today there is now reason to look at blood transfusions being able to spread the disease. And of cows who cares? Long used to being treated as people saw fit. I no longer eat beef.
The woman in the image can be seen seen as a protective goddess or arriving with the knife and fork to E.A.T. I chose to see her as the protector the utensils her weapons - the head surrounded by leaves as she is one with the landscape, the cow looking to eat grass when already fed an animal.

Hey Jan, lucky you to have been able to have spend time in Kangaroo Valley. Thank you for giving an artist's statement about your work. You have explained everything very clearly, giving examples backed up by facts and a personal story to justify your existance as an artist. Thankyou you have informed me of things I never knew. What animals did you see being fed to cows? Groose! I'm glad you are a protector of animal's/cows rights. Take careful aim when you use your weapons and make sure you hit your marks first time. Use the energy/force of your enemies against themselves in a backlash. Great colours and characters in your print. Nothing like a poddy calf to put your arms around it's neck or feed it from a bucket as it pushes you backwards. Cheers

Hey Gerard, upload more 'still' images into the PNP Gallery. The images you have already uploaded, "Rubbish and Culture" and "Looking 4 Jesus" are confronting and challenging. Large cities worldwide all have "crap gallore". Thank God it stills rains to wash/cleanse out our air spaces. But where does it (pollution/waste/crap) all go then? You have answered this question in your video: "Rubbish verses Nature". Into our water-ways! Do you have to boil all of your drinking water as every smart city dweller should? I agree with Michael F., come back to OZ before the 'shit really hits the fan in London (you have't seen nothing yet as to what it's going to be like in the near future) re: 11th Sept. shit! What I respected most in your video was the compare/contrast/juxtaposition of "BEAUTY (nature/rain/flowers/trees,etc.) and the BEAST (rubbish/pollution/crap,circular plastic game, etc.). It brings your message across clearly. Other clear messages in your content are the "spoken words" - "what is political?" - the circular plastic game going round and round to nowhere?, "Let's hope?", "Politics!!!!" (?) and "Bought out (sold out,$$$$)". The 'fresh' sounds of falling rain (hopefully not acid rain) contrasts to the 'ugly' sounds of the traffic. Some of the flowers in your video also grow in Tasmania (brought here during the invasion/genocide time of this State's history). Beautiful flowers. A wise person of old times said, "Where ever you dance, you own!", that place is reclaimed and restored to you (the dancer). You own it aand it becomes yours. I believe this prophet/poet of old times as I have tested this theory out many times. It works. I should dance in many more places than I do. You have inspired me with ideas for my CD-video submission for the 3 min. video for 2004. Just who is going to win the next 2004 Trop-Fest competition. Maybe you? Cheers and thanks for your art images - RAIN DANCER.

Gerard just looking at the 2002 cd work you have on the site. I noticed you said something like what is a wheel at the start of the video piece. Is his a translation for the cycle of nature as in the cycle of human waste and the cycle of the dance do the three forms resond to each other as mirrors in our time of living. Do you think there is an equel amount of nature to rubbish on this plant and will free form dancing help us to understand.

Artists Statement:
Roughly this image is about identity and belonging others and dislocation. It is underpinned by global economic changes and how this has brought "difference" back to a demeanining observation. For a brief time Australians enjoyed a geographic culuthre of harmony in celebrated difference. Globalisation of markets and trade has moved us to the edge of bigotry and a new slavery. Not one transported from country to country but within the community boarders of any country. Most disturbingly our politicians have sold us into the new slave trade - the seat of government in Australia is vacant of intelligence for community.
add comment
Hi Sandra, the colours you have used reflect the majority of Australian landscape accurately. Reminds me of many places away from the coast. what is puffball dye and how did you apply it? Before or after the screenprint? Thanks for your artist's statement. Yes OZ did for a time celebrate harmony in difference/diversity. No longer, as those who encouraged difference/diversity did not account for the political and religious side of tolerance of all people groups and what it would bring. Most just loved the "colour and movement" side of it all. Yes, the current government lacks in insight and does not encourage the "community" aspect of life or value it's importance. This in itself is a diliberate "hidden political agenda". Self-independance (the loner or run away Ron concept) does not allow for people to gather together and "challenge" the status quo acceptance which is here. But things can change by not allowing the "bullies" and authoritian, dictorial types to continue. This website is an example of such a "challenge". Shame on any "YARTIST" type whom dictates and limits creative expression in any way! You use the words 'belonging', 'dislocation' and 'identity'. The OZ REPUBLICANS are currently calling for a new identity push. About time! The Australian Republician Movement has called for a renewed push for the nation's total independence. This question is particularly relevant during this period of international and domestic crises (national security crisis). Have you got your "How to spot a terrorist" awareness kit in the mail yet? Australia should not be seen to be either a colonial outpost or a deputy sheriff. OZ should only be answerable only to Australians. Australians should let the rest of the world know this. Most Australians are capable of rational judjement. Vietnam taught us that. "LEST WE FORGET". Thanks for this intelligent and strong print. Take care in 2003.
