Artists Statement:
Our culture has seen remarkable changes over the years, many of which have been brought about through the migration of people to our country from other continents, enriching our culture by bringing many of their customs with them. Sadly there are still bigots amongst us who use derogatory terms such as ‘poms’ and ‘wogs’ - hence my title ‘Bird with Attitude’

Artists Statement:
Dust to Dust is about the logging of old growth forests in Tasmania. The State Goverment being the Labor Party has got thier hands in the pockets of Gunns Ltd who has the contract to cut most of the old growth forests and other forests in Tasmania, these have been regarded as regenerated forest that they say have no significance. In the past few weeks the (WWF) World Wild Life Fund conservation group has backed down and has given the go ahead for the Tasmanian State Goverment to clear-fell these forests. This has caused a bigger rift between the Tasmanian community, Greens Party and the State Goverment.

Artists Statement:
The sequence of photos in the printed work are from surveillance video cameras placed around the car park where I spend up to 10 hours a day (employed). The car park is made of concrete; thousands of cars pass through the park every single day of the week. The closest thing you will find that's green in the park is P3 level, which is painted dull green. Although as you'll notice in the photos there is a green tinge from the fluro lights. So this is where I work in Bondi Junction. I live down the hill towards Bondi Beach in a set of flats, which you guessed it, are made of bricks and concrete. It's amazing just how much of Sydney is concrete once you start looking in detail at the city as a whole. I guess about 90% of the mass area of metro Sydney would be concrete, brick and steel on land. So where is the nature that the Green Worlds politicians and green groups have been offering me at every election for the past 20 years? The suburban spread does not look any different even the areas which have be redeveloped in the last couple of years. It all looks like high-rise concrete to me. I wonder if inner city political groups and just normal every day city residents know or even think about the idea of green in a city the size of Sydney. Is it parks and gardens? is it the large mass of water that surrounds our suburbs? I mean what's the confusion, we are not living in a green city, nor are any other residences in any other city. City's are made by humans for work and housing, you will find little nature left in a city. If the words `Green Worlds' means nature, that is. But Green Worlds as a theme could mean just about anything and so can the political agenda of the words. I would hazard a guess that to most city residents these days the words ‘Green Worlds’ mean acting upon the idea of what is considered green. Like eating organic, separating the rubbish for recycling, installing solar power, riding your bike to work, demonstrating for human rights etc. These ideas though, are personal, I would like to say oh yes I am a perfect human specimen of political green but I am not, and don't get smug because neither are you. It's impossible for anyone living in a city to be politically green because we are not living hand to hand with nature. And imagine if the billions of humans around the world tried to do that, go bush start building and eating and living off the land. No it would not work so stay where you are for the moment. In the end the words `Green Worlds' need to be considered by every one. When I lived in the suburbs of the Blue Mountains I would wander out into the bush some days and take in the greatness of the majestic mountains and rugged bush landscape. But my breading in the cultural cold gray concrete city of Melbourne soon had me back in Sydney craving the company of humans and fun parks. Being Green for me is a politically correct concept but it is not my reality. I want the idea of the natural world to return with a force that will reclaim nature from our destructive systems. But like most humans I'm stuck in the concrete world, which we have created for ourselves. Let there be nature, Viva La Green Worlds.
