SS, A truely wonderful image. I like the view-point in the image making the viewer subconsciously look up - a thing we should all do as often as possible. Not in a proud way but in a way that gives each individual self-respect internally. The print exudes fun, joy and safety. I see it reflects a very, current, classical Ozi image and message. It does not suggest any horrors experienced by victims of drownings or tsunamis. I will be putting this print up on the wall in my home for 2005, together with all of the other 'blue' prints from the 2004 portfolios. What is this aqua/blue/purple thing that's happened in 2004? It's definately a positive thing. Do you think so?

Sharyn, I hope that some Oz 2007 political party promises to help save the Great Barrier Reef will occur but I fear it's already too late. Cricky what do you think? I'll be voting GREEN.

Artists Statement:
The image with hands makes reference to the individual - the individual can make a difference. If the peoples of the world can join together and agree on the need to look after the planet then there will be some hope.
We have to nurture not take and pollute.

JS, I feel this print sums up what a lot of other artists in the 2004 portfolios have said through artist's written statements and visual statements. The hand (joining and hopeing) image and the use of blue/green/black ink re occures as a 2004 EPNPM subliminal theme. Why? Is it coincidence, something spiritual, or like-minded people think alike? I'll be putting this art work on my home's wall for 2005. I love looking at it and the positive vibes it sends to me. Art investors should purchase this artist's work through EPNPM. A definate investment and brilliant 'mood' art to enjoy at the same time. Thanks JS for this work.

Jan, Yes get rid of all the anti-environment politicians at the next 2007 Oz election. Vote "GREEN" to help keep all of the other political bastards straight (if possible). Let the bastards put their polluting nuclear reactors in their own surburbs. First one should be built on the site of Kirrabilly House. Knock the house down and rebuild the nuc-plant there then it would match the Opera house and balance the look of the Sydney Harbour Bridge as you sail into Sydney Harbour.

DT, 'Ground Zero' sends out a very positive, awareness message to the viewer about the global green issues. The symbol '+' suggests plus, add it all up and get the answer (work it out), crucification, 9/11 destruction and HIV-AIDS awareness or just put 2 band-aids on it and it'll be OK mate attitude. What is the end answer? The Red Cross have for years been doing positive humanitarian work around the globe. So it's well overdue now that the Green Cross supporters of environmental issues get motivated. At first I thought this image was too easy (and why didn't I think of that) but it is the simplicity that makes it direct and straight to the point with it's message. The state of the green issues on planet earth is not just a concern - it's very bad what's being ignored. The harm minimalism approach to solving the problems is a 'political joke'. DT have you considered emailing this image to the Ozi 'Greens Party' with a short email introducing yourself. The Greens Party often look for art work they could use in their awareness programs. This art work would be 'spot on' for what they are on about. Here is a starting point contact should you wish to follow this up. Karen Brown, Party Networker: networker@tas.greens.org.au and greens@parliment.tas.gov.au This print is also going up on the wall of my home for 2005 next to one I have about the Red Cross (a Librian balance thing). Thanks DT for bringing this image into my life.

Deb, I place this GREEN cross (symbolically in my mind) on top of all other political ads/posters that I see in my daily life, up untill the 2007 Oz election is decided as I find it helps to keep the non-Green political demons at bay in my imagination (reality?). I think you are ready to vote but not for the red-neck parties.

GW, This is a very sensitive print - excellent work! Looking at your work on EPNPM over the last few years your art work has changed and developed. This does not mean to say any is less or greater than each other over time - an artist's last work should always be their best and the next image being created NOW should be even better (in the creator's/artist's eyes) than the one before. Is this the personal/private photosynthesis you refer to? The synthesis of complex, printmaking materials by artists from current diverse printmaking methods through using their artist's 'heart/essence/intelligence/feelings/emotions/insight/intuition' as the source of energy and a catalyst such as EPNPM has to create growth, development, progress and change for the better. Life for living artists - this sensitive, mood print goes up on the wall of my home for 2005.

Gordon, the GREEN environmental issues in the upcoming 2007 Oz election will be major factors on who wins but the personal photosynthesis (growth) has to do with self-evaluation, personal/private development and self-empowerment. I could be wrong? But I see it as all holistically inter-related - good art concept. Nature not nurture? Decided who to vote for yet?

Hi Gordon, I'm an artist and I'm considering submitting an edition of prints next year with PNPM and have selected to write a few comments on some prints I like (eg yours) to see if printmakers do chat with each other online. As for voting, I'm currently so bored with any politics. Happy printing.

LW, This year a black image while last year a white image. Reflection of the new Ozi mood? I like the way you have used the image position similar to that of the historic, sculpture image of "The Thinker" and have changed it from a naked male to that of a (semi) naked female. I also like the suggestion of sitting on a toilet-seat thinking too long and nothing happening! However in your image the seat is a wheely-bin suggesting think about how much crap we throw out while living in a 'disposable, throw-away , westernised culture. Oh yes, 'SELAH!", think about how many plastic bags, etc, each has put into the wheely-bins of our past and present lives. So after 'thinking' should follow 'action' on a personal level. But has it - go and spend a few hours walking in and around your local tip, it can't but make you at least think. Thanks LW for this lino block print, it will look great hanging beside your last year's (nearly) all white print. Investors and or art lovers should buy up LW's work. An intelligent living artist to watch out for.

Leigha, I agree, vote for Green Localised Environments in the 2007 Oz elections. Why has the Labor Party's, Midnight Oil's boy gone soft? Has Pete always just been a FAKE right from the beginning of his music career? I'll be voting for Bob Brown - GREEN. What about you?

Artists Statement:
Many questions remain unanswered as to the effects of the genetically engineered crops on the environment. Genetic changes to the molecular system of crop plants allow larger quantities of pesticides and herbicides to be used without damaging the host. The over-all effect on flora and fauna has not received much consideration.
In my print, "Worth their weight", I have illustrated some of the Australian wildlife that may be affected by the changes to the ecology Changes to the food chain can have devastating results, here the frogmouth, with a diet of insects, is the first causality.
With the imminent release of the round-up ready wheat, it is time for the questions to be fully answered.

DW, 'Worth their weight' in gold an illustrious print - scales measuring and weighing up the issue: "The environment or The money", a games show where you get to choose? I like the way as a printmaker how you have used diverse mediums over the years; 2002 a woodblock, 2003 a copper-etch, 2004 a lino print plus this remarkable collograph. Your artist's statement is star verse and realistically truthful in it's content. This year I had a pair of swallows nesting in the shed - the babies hatched and grew, the local council sprayed the foothpaths with 'round-up' (environmentally safe they tell us) that same day I found the babies dead in the nest. Was this coincidence or straight out poisoning? I was told by an old local that it happens to all the local bird's babies each time the local council sprays the foothpaths with 'round-up'. Thanks for this swell collograph and its awareness message.

Dorothy, poisons will be dumped into Bass Strait by the John Howard Liberal gang of environmental development de$troyer$ since they now have approved the Bell Bay pulp mill in N/E Tasmania. Who is voting for Malcolm Turnbill in his electorate? Definately not me! I won't be voting for any anti-environment, Malcolm in the middle 'Turn-Coat'. I'll be voting "GREEN". Bob Brown for 2007 PM.

Artists Statement:
"Shepherd you cut me as I lay dumb before your authority. I followed the powerful, puppet goat believing and trusting. Live animal export - free trade agreement. I ended up in a foreign land weak and vunerable. On an Arab's table, dead but blessed. Some went to Western resturants and supermarkets. All went into fridges, grills and stomachs. Lamb Chops! Sherrie Lewis - animal liberationist or animal abuser? Where was the hand? Lamb Chops - such expression and eye contact. Remember on a hill far away stood an old, growth forest. It fell for chips and burnt for months so I had green, green grass to eat. Just so you had me to feast on. Fertiliser spread from ground and air till soil's snow white. Chemicals for the green, green grass of home. Way too much to eat. Lambs and muttons for the gluttons. More meat please or more old, growth forest please? Government races to clearfell, chip and salinate. The human race? It was a beautiful world we lived in, just a beautiful world - Tasmania. A sweet, romantic place but I remember what YOU did and are still doing! And what 'You' didn't do to prevent it from happening. Duty of care? I am the sheep. I am the old, growth forest. I am not the farmer. I am not the 'I am that I am". Where is that bleeding 'Lamb of God'?"
